I started in a grungy garage. Just a solder bench, an old kiln, mosquitoes and the Texas heat. Summers were brutal. It was very hard to keep clean. Not a very inspiring space.
Fast forward to now. I’ve worked hard to turn a corner of my garage into my perfect studio heaven. I had my contractor build out a 10’x10’ room with insulated walls and ceiling, nice floors and even a window. My wonderful brother helped with electrical and installing a mini-split. My mom helped with painting my benches. Basically it took a village, and it’s an amazing place where I can be comfortable and creative.
I have decorated it with various tools and such from my grandfather’s workshop. I have a handmade paper towel holder and an old pencil sharpener. I even added bird houses that belonged to my grandmother along the top of my solder bench. I also use her antique irons on the regular to keep my copper panels flat after firing. There are so many little special touches in there from them that make it feel like getting a hug when I am creating. I count my blessings every day that I am there.
